  • HelpSession from Monday, April 23, 2001 available. There is HELP on PS12.2, 12.7c and e and PS12.5.
  • I'm around all day today, until 4:00 pm when I have a meeting. If you have questions on the PS drop by and I'll help. Do as well as you can on the Pre-laboratory questions for this week's laboratory. We will be discussing some of the harder questions on the pre-lab in class on Wednesday.
  • Here is a nice table of Ka's and Kb's for you. It has C2H5NH2 also.
  • The weather is beginning to get beautiful. Please remember that shorts and/or open-toed footwear must not be worn in the laboratory. You will not be allowed to work in the laboratory without the proper clothing.
  • I want to make an important point about the use of graphing calculators on CHEM 1515 exams. You ar enot to store mathematical equations/definitions in memory on your calculators. If you do, it is called CHEATING (Academic Misconduct). On Exam III you may use the solver to do a quadratic equation, but that is the only exception I will allow. Otherwise all you are using on your calculator are the function (+, -, x, /, e, ln, log, 1/x, etc.). If you have ANY questions about this policy please drop by and talk to me.
  • Dr. Rockley has reminded me of a web site that he has developed that randomly generates problems (with answers) of the type that might occur on an examination. Check this site out and try some of the problems. (Note: I saw a problem calculating the fraction of particles with an energy equal or great than the activiation energy. We did not do a problem of that type so do not concern yourself about answering.)
  • Dr. Rockley also referred to some notes he has on the web for his discussion on equilibria. Check those notes out.

  • Be sure to bring your textbook and a calculator to laboratory the first week of classes. Yes, the CHEM 1515 laboratory does meet this week (January 16 - 19). (See the CHEM 1515 Syllabus)
  • Sitting around with nothing to do? We are going to begin lecture on Wednesday, January 17th discussing Chapter 11 in Silberberg. I recommend you review Chapters 9 and 10 before class. In particular, refresh your recall of drawing Lewis structures, the concept of electronegativity, ionic and covalent bonds, bond polarity, molecular polarity, molecular shape (in particular central atoms with 2, 3 and 4 groups of electrons). Check out lecture notes from CHEM 1314. In particular look at;
