Lecture
notes are updated through most of lecture for Wednesday,
January 31, 2001
PS3
is available.
On PS2.9 I
expect you to turn-in the printout of the plot you used to answer this question.
I've
posted suggested problems from Silberberg Chapters 10, 11, 12 and 15 that
I recommend you review for Exam I at the Problem Set link.
On Monday afternoon
I received a memo from Dr. Keener, Executive Vice-President for OSU, stating
Wednesday afternoon classes (1/31/01) between 1:30 pm and 5:00 pm are cancelled.
Therefore Wednesday afternoon laboratory will NOT meet. However, the material
covered in that laboratory must be completed prior to the exam on Thursday,
February 8th. My plan is to allow students to attend another laboratory that
fits their schedule between now and the exam next week. To maintain communication
I need students in the wednesday lab to send me an e-mail and the TA who is
responsible for the lab you plan to attend indicating you are going to attend.
This way the TA can be prepared for extra students. We also have to be careful
too many students do not attend a particular laboratory. If this plan causing
any individual problems you should contact Dr. G ASAP!
The laboratory schedule for our class is,

Some new lecture
notes are up and Friday's digital lecture is now available.
Answers to
the Review Problem Set and PS1 are now available at the Problem set link.
Check out the
Exam link. New information there...you must know which room you will take
your exams this semester.
Check
out the laboratory link for what is happening in laboratory the week of January
29th. The hard copy of Experiment #1 was distributed in class on Friday, January
26, 2001. If you did not get a copy go to the laboratory link to print one.
Want some EXTRA CREDIT? Complete the form at the SID#/Name
link.
Be sure to bring your textbook and a calculator to laboratory
the first week of classes. Yes, the CHEM 1515 laboratory does meet this week
(January 16 - 19). (See the CHEM 1515 Syllabus)
Sitting around with nothing to do? We are going to begin
lecture on Wednesday, January 17th discussing Chapter 11 in Silberberg. I
recommend you review Chapters 9 and 10 before class. In particular, refresh
your recall of drawing Lewis structures, the concept of electronegativity,
ionic and covalent bonds, bond polarity, molecular polarity, molecular shape
(in particular central atoms with 2, 3 and 4 groups of electrons). Check out
lecture notes from CHEM 1314. In particular look at;
Lecture
Notes for Friday, November 17, 2000 and Monday, November 20, 2000:
Ionic compounds.
Lecture
Notes for Monday, November 20, 2000: Covalent compounds and electronegativity.
Lecture
