• HELP Session, Monday, January 31, 2000 at 7:00 pm in PS141.
  • The way I run my Help Sessions is to begin by asking questions. I make a list of the questions (usually around 10 -15) on the board and I do the questions in the order asked. The one question I do not answer in the Help session is, 'Would you do a problem over, blah.' During the Help Sessions I will not make-up problems, you give me a specific problem to do and I'll do it, but I will not make them up. The reason for this is if I make one up too hard, everyone gets pi--ed, if it is too easy and there is a harder problem like it on the exam, everyone gets p--sed. So if I just do problems given to me by students, fewer students get --ssed. (does any of this make sense?)

  • Monday, January 24, 2000 lecture notes are now posted. Also check the new Self-Test. I might also say that if you do not know the answer to any of the self-test questions an acceptable response is 'I do not know' (IDK).
  • The OSU Mountain Biking Club has their first meeting of the Spring Semester on Thursday, January 27, 2000 at 6:00 pm in AgH201. If you like to ride your mountain bike and/or road bike this is the club to associate with. All types of riders are welcome; newbys, beginners, sports, whatever. We are making plans for Spring activities; party's, rides, trips, and if you are interested racing. Rumor has it there may be some door prizes (swag) at this meeting. Members get all kinds of perks...discounts, listserv, new friends, and bruises. What else is there! You only live once, so RIDE hard. Talk to Dr. G. he is the faculty adviser to the club.
  • PLEASE! I will not accept any late problem sets. If your PS is not turned in at the beginning of class it is late! If you turn your PS into the Chemistry Office it is late and you will receive a 0 for that problem set. It is a fairness issue. If everyone turns in the PS on time I can not allow other students extra time to complete their PS. If it is late you have taken extra time. If anyone has any problem with this policy please e-mail me.
  • Notes for Wednesday (January 19, 2000) and Friday's (January 21, 2000) lectures. I'll also have Self-Test#3 ready. Kick some b...!
  • There is a new InClass Problem Set which you will work on with a partner in discussion this week. Be sure to bring your textbook and calculator to laboratory this week.
  • If you can not make class (for whatever reason) when a Problem Set is due I will accept it if you mail it and the postmark is the day the problem set is due or earlier. You are also welcome to FAX (405-744-6007), but that can be expensive.
  • In laboratory during the Week of January 23 - 27, 2000 you will do Experiment #1: The Measurement of Matter. Be sure to read the laboratory experiment before coming to lab this week.
  • Need a periodic table? Check the Database link. I recommend the WebElements Periodic Table.
  • The Chemistry Department offers free tutoring in PS023. For a tentative schedule go to the Free Tutoring link. The tutoring will begin Monday, January 17, 2000. Names in red are our TA's and they will know more about what is happening in our class. TA names in blue have taught 1215 with me before.
  • Welcome to CHEM 1215. In order to post grade information (scores on problem sets, laboratory's and exams) I need your permission. Go the SID#/Name link and enter a number, name or combination unique to you. I will post grade information using your SID# or SIDName. There are some additional questions that I would like you to answer for some EXTRA CREDIT.
  • Our teaching assistants this semester are James Greuel (401, 403 and 405), Dattatri Negesha (402, 404 and 406), and Joe Studer (407, 408 and 409).
