Next HELP Session!!! Thursday, February
12th at 7:30 p.m. in PS141. Answer questions over the
problem set due on Friday the 13th...aghhhhh! Is that
blood dripping from my problem set???? Who is it?
Eric Frederick and several other
students have found some minor typos on PS5.
In PS5.4 the boiling point
constant for benzene is not correct. Instead of
5.12 oCm-1 use 2.53 oCm-1.
I had listed the freezing point constant by
mistake.
In PS5.8 the constant for ether
is referred to as a kf, just change it
to kb. Do not change the value the
number is OK I missed and typed f when I meant b.
You do not have to calculate the
ideal freezing point for the two weak
electrolytes in PS5.5. It is difficult to define
an 'ideal' freezing point for weak electrolytes.
Hey FREEEE PIZZA! The Biochemistry Club
is having a meeting at 5:30 p.m. in 348B Noble Research
Center (NRC) on Wednesday, February 11th. Get some free
pizza and learn about some fun activities for the
semester. Everyone Welcome.
Looking in on the Tuesday morning
laboratories things seem to be going OK with the
experiment. The data being collected looked reasonable
(on the average). It appears that you will need about 2
hours to complete the experiments. You will practice
using the OSU pipet bulbs so be sure to practice.
Justin Brooks has done it again. He has
made an Excel
spreadsheet which allows you to enter your grades for
homework, laboratory and exams and it will calculate what
your grade is in class. This is VERY handy and if you
fool around with it you can figure out what you need to
do to get a particular grade. Thanks Justin!
Reminder!
There is an OSU Mountain Biking Club Meeting on
Wednesday, February 11th at 5:00 p.m. in Engineering
North 415B. Everyone interested in learning about local
mountain biking trails and loves to ride is encouraged to
come to this meeting. Hey, are you in shape for the
upcoming 12 Miles of Hell race in Lawton this weekend?
Whimp!
Here are grades
that I have as of today.
Problem Set #5 is ready. Get it here
early.
Here
is this weeks laboratory. Be sure to answer the
questions on the first two pages before arriving in
discussion thist week. Next weeks experiment will be
straightforward as long as you can read, are NOT sloppy,
and have good laboratory techniques. It will be very easy
for one student to ruin the experiment for everyone in
that section. Listen carefully to your TA's instructions
and read the laboratory experiment. Oh, what is the
difference between peroxydisulfate and thiosulfate?
The American Institute for Chemical
Engineers is organizing a FREE trip to visit Eastman
Chemical in Longview, TX on Sunday, February 15th and
Monday, February 16th. Sign-up in EN423 and provide a
$5.00 refundable deposit. Transportation and lodging is
free, food may not be provided. Business casual dress
will be appropriate. Contact Cynthia Kuhns (email:kuhns@okstate.edu)
for more information.

Important
Laboratory issues:
How many
of you out there no how to graph data? Using
Excel? Some other software? If you think
you are going to need some help send me an e-mail
or say something to me in class. We may want to
discuss this during a future HELP Session.
This brings up an important point
that I need to make regarding Pre-laboratory
Questions. These questions MUST be completed before
beginning the laboratory. If they are not completed
when the TA checks them 3 points will automatically
be deducted from the total points you earn for that
particular laboratory experiment. Additionally if any
of the points for that experiment are associated with
the pre-laboratory questions you will also loose
those points. I would predict that a student could
loose from 3 to 5 points for NOT completing the
pre-laboratory questions.
Be sure to take your calculator and
your textbook with you to laboratory. Since the first
50 minutes of the laboratory period is
discussion/problem solving you will want to ask
questions about problem sets and or lecture.
