Here is a draft version of the rubric for Form A in pdf format as of May 24, 2005 at 8:40 am. I've fixed the BF3 typo, thanks everyone who caught that. I also fixed a few other places where I messed up. I would like comments from all QLs and TLs on the rubric. e-mail your comments to jgelder@okstate.edu. I will be attending the Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting of the ACS May 22, 2005 - May 25, 2005, but I will still be updating the rubric (linked here) with your comments. Thanks in advance.

Here is a draft version of the rubric for Form B in pdf format as of May 30, 2005 at 11:50 pm.

I would like comments from all QLs and TLs on the rubric. I've corrected the typo on 4d (hydrogen iodide). As of Friday, May 21th I've had comments from four Leaders. If you have not yet looked at the rubric I originally sent on May 19th, you might want to look at the current version.

I would very much like comments on the FORM B rubric also. Please use the Table below to determine the questions I would like you to comment on for FORM A and FORM B. If you have comments on questions other than those assigned you are welcome to provide them (thanks). I will be updating the pdf file linked on this page for both forms with everyone's comments. I recommend that you look at the current version since several changes have already been made based on input (thank you!).

I think the TL dinner will be at the Pendleton House this year.

Fike pool will not be available this year (again). Exercising will be available at the same location as last year beneath Harcombe Foodcourt.

There is a generic bowling night on Saturday for Chemistry and Environmental Science, and a request is in for Chemistry to have their own access on Thursday.

Information from Lisa McGaw to anyone driving to the Reading.

' If any of you are driving and could bring any of the following items
to the reading at Clemson, Lisa would be forever grateful. We are going
to tie-dye our t-shirts this year.
2 or 3 liter plastic soda bottles (we need about 16 total)
plastic plant trays 'flats' (we could use probably around 30-50 of
these)
old newspaper 'lots of this' this is really a messy thing
Thank you all!
Lisa '

The Table Leader dinner is arranged for Calhoun Corners on Monday, June 10th. Entree choices will be;

12 oz Prime Rib;
Grilled Prime Rib Imperial topped with crabmeat;
Filet Mignon Bˇarnaise;
Broiled Salmon;
Chicken Oscar;
Seafood Trio (shrimp, scallops, and crabmeat); or
Twin Crab Cakes.

Felicia Fletcher (Diane Samone is not at Clemson II this year) will take our order choices the morning of June 10th and call it in to the restaurant.

All entrees will include salad, vegetables, bread, either rice or potato, a glass of house wine or a house liquor, dessert, beverage (coffee, teas, or soft drink - I think they call it pop in the South!!), tax, and gratuities.

I've received feedback from eleven, very hardworking, dedicated TL and I've added the comments to the Rubric. Here is the current version in pdf format. 2002 AP Chemistry Rubric The feedback is in itialics and is located at the appropriate questions/answer. I believe this will be the last update to the rubrics before I see everyone Sunday evening/Monday morning. Thank you again for ALL of your comments. The rubric is sooooo much better now.

The rubric was sent via e-mail to those TLs that responded to my e-mail. The others recieved the Rubric via FedEx or snail mail. Everyone, except Joe Beran, who was last reported somewhere in the Colorado Rockies...who knows where Nathrop is located? should have their copy on Friday, May 24th. As I receive feedback and as I have time, I will update the Rubric.

Since Tom Boyd can not make it this year. Patsy has graciously agreed to return.

The current list of question/table leaders is; Lew Acampora, Jo Beran, Robert Boggess, Tom Boyd, James Cortez, Donnie Byers, Marian DeWane, Margaret Dreher, Rose Hanscom, Dale Jensen, Lisa McGaw, George Miller, Jerry Mullins, Gardiner Myers, Debra Reynolds, Brian Rood, Eleanor Siebert, Jackie Simms, and Bill Wilk. I've recruited Jerry Mullins and Bill Wilk to substitute for David Hostage and Bill Robinson for this year. Some of you may remember Jerry Mullins who was a table leader for many years in the late 80's and through the mid-90's.

I've asked George Miller, Rose Hanscom and Jackie Simms to join Joe Beran as Question Leaders for the 2002 Reading. My current plan will be for the five of us to arrive a day prior to the other Table Leaders to review the Rubric and look at sample papers to see how the rubric works. I'm hoping this will provide additional information for our discussion of the rubric on the morning of the 10th. All the TLs will receive a copy of the rubric immediately following the examination date in May. So your comments and feedback on the initial rubric will be important. Three of the four QL positions will rotate within the group, so in 2003 there will be new QLs. This way each of the TLs will gain the experience, and be able to offer suggestions to help all of us at the Reading.

I've received messages from David Hostage and Bill Robinson indicating they will be unable to attend the Reading this summer :(. David's son is going to graduate, and Bill will be teaching summer school. We will miss them both. If anyone would like to recommend someone for a Table Leader position let me know.

Hopefully by now you have all received your invitations to the 2002 Reading. Again if any one perceives of a possible problem with attending please let me know. We will have four new table leaders next summer. They are;

We all can remember our first year as a table leader, so if you have any suggestions, hints or warnings be sure to share them. If you have a time, welcome them.

I have received word back from Kim Tilton at ETS that my requests have been accepted. If you would like to look at the document you are welcome. Any comments are appreciated. I would ask that this report not be disseminated. It is FYI.

I have prepared the 2002 Reader appointments and with the exception of Patsy who has officially retired, everyone (TLs) will be invited back for Reading 2002. I will be replacing Patsy and adding three new TLs for 2002. I'll let everyone know who the new TLs will be as soon as they have accepted. I've placed a brief note on the Reader's Web Page describing the Appointment Process. Check it out.

mid-November to mid-December: Reader Invitations mailed

Dates for the 2002 Reading are;

June 9 Question Leaders

June 10 - 11 Table Leaders

June 12 - 18 for the Readers (Please note the 18th is a Tuesday. If you are planning on doing Summer Institutes please watch out for this potential conflict. I did request that Chemistry not finish on Monday as we did in 2001, so that was fulfilled, but clearly there are bigger issues that ETS must contend with...sorry.)

Here is a plot of distribution of scores for 54,661 students. You may make a transparency of this plot to show, but do not distribute it to AP teachers. The raw score cuts were 5 (102), 4 (101 - 83), 3 (82 - 55), 2 (54 - 35). No perfect scores 160 points this year. There were students who had perfect multiple choice scores or perfect free-response scores.
