The speed of light.

The product of the wavelength and frequency is the speed of light. The symbol which represents frequency is called nu, lambda is the symbol used to describe wavelength. (NOTE: Students who do not know the difference will lose points on the exam.)

The speed of light is a constant and is equal to 3.00 x 108 ms-1.

Using this relationship if we know the wavelength of a sample of light we can calculate the frequency of the same sample. Or if we know the frequency we can calculate the wavelength. You do not have to memorize this equation but you must know how to use it!
