Course Description
Instructors: Valerie A. Ferguson, Moore High School,
Moore, OK and John I. Gelder, Ph.D., Oklahoma State University,
Stillwater, OK
Location: Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK
Date:July 9 - 13, 2001
This institute is designed to assist participants in their
quest to improve their teaching of AP Chemistry, using the World
Wide Web, computer generated animations and CBL laboratory
experiments.
Topics to be discussed will include: electrochemistry,
thermodynamics, acid-base chemistry, ionic reactions and other
topics as time allows.
Participants will have an opportunity to practice laboratory
activities in equilibrium, chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, and
ionic reactions and solubility. Participants will be able to use
CBL and spectrophotometers during the laboratory investigations.
Attention will be given to using spreadsheet templates for
analyzing data.
Mornings will be devoted to theory and afternoons to
laboratory activities. Theory discussions will take advantage of
multimedia presentations using the animations included on the
Animations in Chemistry CD-ROM.
This institute will have a WEB site (http://intro.chem.okstate.edu/2001APInstitute)
which contains institute and internet resource materials. Participants will
have access to the Web site before, during and after the summer institute.
