• I have some notes for Friday and Monday's lecture available now.

  • PS2 is now available at the problem set link.

  • In PS1.8 do not worry about the reference to formal charge. Just draw the resonance structures for each species.

  • I'll be in my office today. If you have any questions over PS1 or the RPS drop in and we can talk about them.

  • Girl Scout cookie are coming! Girl Scout cookie are coming! Dr. Mantini has two daughters who are taking orders. Want some? The cookies cost $2.50/box this year, with orders being taken until Jan. 31. Delivery will be in late February. The eight varieties available this year are Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-si-dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Striped Chocolate Chip, Lemon Drops (new this year), and reduced fat Apple Cinnamon (also new). Dr. Mantini has a web site or you can email her to place orders!

  • Still plenty of time to enjoy some 'fun', try the Take a Quiz link. I am not grading this so take it to see what you understand from the first two lectures. Make a note of the questions you answered correctly and incorrectly. Drop by my office if you have any questions. Let me know if you like this, we may do it again.

  • Our plan is to postpone turning in PS1 to Friday, January 22, 1999 at 8:30 a.m. NOTE: this is the same day the Review Problem Set is due.

  • For predicting the products of chemical reactions (remember this is one of my favorite types of questions) I recommend you review the following notes from CHEM 1215;

    Chapter 7 notes

    Summarizing chemical equations notes

You may also find some useful information in Chapter 6 notes

  • Here is a suggestion for doing the Review Problem Set. When you are doing the problems check the chapter in your textbook the material is introduced. Then go to the Lecture Notes link on the CHEM 1215 Web site and find the lecture notes for that chapter. Check the dates the material was covered in lecture. Then go to the Problem Set link and find the date a problem set is due which is close to the date the lecture material was discussed. You can then look at the problem set AND the answers to help you recall how to do the problems. Isn't that a great idea?!

  • Announcements from previous days

  • If you had CHEM 1215 with me last semester and you would like your Exam IV and Final Exam, just drop by my office.

  • Remember CHEM 1225 is a 2nd semester chemistry course. It is assumed that you have had CHEM 1215 or equivalent. If you have questions about your chemistry background drop by my office and we can talk. BTW I have a meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, and will not be able to hold my office hours at that time.

  • I'm trying to keep track of problems on the Web Server that result in error messages or missing images in the notes that you are trying to download. If something does not work right send me an e-mail message and I'll get it fixed.

  • Questions at the HELP! Session focused on RPS4 and RPS6. I would recommend reviewing the answers to Exam III (CHEM 1215) to help you solve RPS4. Look at PS13 answers to get some idea what I want from RPS6. Solving stoichiometry problems will be very important this semester when we cover, gases (CH 13), solutions (CH 15) and equilibria (CH 16).

  • RPS.7 - RPS.10 will be covered in lecture (most likely Wednesday, January 13, 1999).

  • Syllabus and General Information pages are now available. The only tentative feature of our schedule this semester is the time of our exams. I am going to try to have them in the evening, but I need to work that out with scheduling.

  • The first two weeks of laboratory will spend time on a review problem set and Exercise 1, 2 and 3 in the CHEM 1225 Lab Manual. If you have Monday lab...DO NOT MISS IT!!

  • We will begin in Chapter 12 with a review of Lewis structures. Check out the lecture notes.

  • This semester I've added a new link called 'What's Important'. In this section I will discuss the important concepts in a chapter and try to relate the concepts covered in the chapter. I'll also try to provide some 'reasons' why you might want to learn this material.
